Why fasteners need help!

The Tale of the Mighty Bridge

In the busy town of Riverton, a brand-new bridge was built to connect both sides of the river. It was a beautiful structure, held together by thousands of bolts, screws, and nails. The town celebrated as people and cars crossed it daily, never thinking much about the small fasteners that held it all together.

However, as time passed, trouble began.

One stormy night, the wind howled, and the bridge shook with every passing truck. High above the roadway, a bolt began to loosen. The constant vibration from traffic made it twist slightly, bit by bit. If it came loose, an important metal plate would shift—and that could spell disaster!

Luckily, a lock washer was in place. This small, springy metal ring sat beneath the bolt, gripping tightly and preventing it from spinning loose. No matter how much the bridge shook, the washer kept the bolt locked in place, saving the day!

Meanwhile, down near the water’s edge, another problem was growing. Some of the bolts that held the metal beams together were starting to rust because of the rain and river mist. Rust weakens metal, making it brittle. If left unchecked, the bolts could snap under pressure!

Fortunately, special anti-rust coatings had been used on the fasteners. These coatings acted like armor, keeping water from reaching the metal. The bolts remained strong, and the bridge stood firm against the elements.

But not all the fasteners were metal. Some wooden planks on the walkway were attached with screws, and over time, people walking across them made the screws shift slightly. If they came loose, someone could trip!

Thankfully, the builders had thought ahead and used strong adhesive glue along with the screws. This glue created extra grip, keeping the screws from wiggling free. The wooden planks stayed secure, and no one stumbled.

As the years passed, the bridge faced storms, traffic, and time itself. But because of lock washers, protective coatings, and glue, the fasteners stayed strong, and the bridge remained safe for all of Riverton.
